Boysenberry originated in California and was introduced in 1923. It has very large, non-shiny, dark maroon berries, with soft and very juicy flesh. The Boysen has a distinctive, rich, tangy flavor and is very aromatic. These berries are excellent for eating fresh, juicing, freezing, canning, pastries, and preserves. Ripens about July 1, and are among the largest of the small fruits. Boysen has vigorous, trailing vines.
Hardy to approximately -10F without protection and in zones 6-9.
